In recent times, movements and months have arisen in society to commemorate and normalize lifestyles and ideologies that stand in contradiction to the Word of God. If ever there were a time for <strong>&#8220;Sodom and Gomorrah Awareness,&#8221;<\/strong> it is now\u2014not to celebrate, but to <strong>warn<\/strong> and <strong>call to repentance<\/strong>, as the Scriptures solemnly declare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Biblical Record: What Happened to Sodom and Gomorrah?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sodom and Gomorrah were cities marked by great wickedness. Their judgment by God stands as one of the clearest biblical warnings against rebellion and moral corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Genesis 13:13<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their sin was so grievous that God Himself came down to verify the outcry against them (Genesis 18:20-21). The final judgment is recorded in Genesis 19, where fire and brimstone rained from heaven:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;<br>And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities&#8230;&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Genesis 19:24-25<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This destruction was not arbitrary. It was the righteous judgment of a holy God against persistent sin, including <strong>sexual perversion<\/strong>, <strong>pride<\/strong>, <strong>violence<\/strong>, and <strong>neglect of the poor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness&#8230; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.<br>And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Ezekiel 16:49-50<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The New Testament Reminder: A Warning to All Generations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The New Testament does not treat Sodom as mere history\u2014it uses the example as a warning for future generations. Jesus Himself referred to Sodom when warning cities that rejected His gospel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Matthew 10:15<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter reminds us that God&#8217;s judgment is not idle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>2 Peter 2:6<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And Jude speaks directly to the <strong>unnatural lusts<\/strong> and eternal consequence of their rebellion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Jude 1:7<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Should We Be Aware Of?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we are to observe a &#8220;Sodom and Gomorrah Awareness Month,&#8221; let it be with <strong>biblical eyes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Awareness that sin, especially unrepentant sin, leads to judgment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awareness that <strong>God is patient<\/strong>, but His judgment is certain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awareness that <strong>Jesus Christ came to save sinners<\/strong>, and that <strong>there is mercy for those who repent<\/strong> (Luke 5:32, Acts 3:19).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let the Church speak not with pride or hatred, but with <strong>truth and love<\/strong>\u2014calling people out of darkness into the marvelous light of Christ (1 Peter 2:9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final Exhortation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Remember Lot&#8217;s wife.&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Luke 17:32<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She looked back at what God was judging. Let us not do the same. Let us flee the sin that God condemns, and cling to the Saviour who redeems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,<br>Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.<br>And of some have compassion, making a difference:<br>And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.&#8221;<br>\u2014 <em>Jude 1:20\u201323<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let <strong>Sodom and Gomorrah Awareness<\/strong> not be a celebration of what God destroyed, but a <strong>sobering reminder<\/strong> of His justice\u2014and His offer of grace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2014 A Biblical Reflection As Bible-believing Christians, we are called not to conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).
